Special General Meeting

Our customary mid-year Special General Meeting (SGM) was held on 30 August. It was attended by more than 90 residents – the best since the inception of our village in 1991.

They attended the meeting. Clr. Tinus Ras (right, foreground, wearing the checked shirt) was also there.
The main purpose of the SGM was to discuss and approve the audited financial statements for the year ending 31 December 2017 tabled by our Management Agent, Frikman Nel. Frikman commented on the healthy state of our finances, which is undoubtedly due our conservative approach to financial management over many years.

A secondary issue was the kVA (kilovolt-ampere) charge that appears on our monthly electricity statements in addition to normal charges for electricity consumption. Over the years this has become a burden to residents.

The Chairman of the Management Committee, Gerhard van Rooyen, explained that he and others have tried since February and March 2017 to persuade the municipality that the kVA charge was unfair to residents as they were required to pay a higher rate for their electricity than other households in town. A previous Municipal Manager promised that the kVA tariff would soon be done away with. However, more than a year later nothing had transpired.

The Chairman and a small committee representing residents, once again held discussions on 30 August with the new Municipal Manager, Mr. Makhubela and other municipal officials. Clr.Tinus Ras chaired the meeting.

The Mr. Maluleka (Municipal Manager) promised that he would set processes in motion to abolish kVA charges by October 2018.
