Marie Snyman (E45)
Bestanddele: 300 g (625 ml) koekmeel; 480 g (920 ml) volkoringmeel; 20 ml sout; 10 g Anchor kits-droëgis; 70 g (125 ml) sonneblomsaad; 15 ml kookolie; 35 ml bruin suiker; 750 ml lou water.

Metode: Meng meel, volkoringmeel, sout en suiker saam. Voeg kitsgis by en meng. Plaas in gesmeerde panne. Bak in oond by 190 ºC vir omtrent 25 tot 30 minute.

We welcome Shirley Moore (U61)

Shirley Moore (57) was born and bred in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. She recently moved to Bela-Bela.

Shirley attended Montrose High School in Bulawayo where she obtained M Levels in 1979. After school she enrolled at the Bulawayo Polytechnic where she studied applied art and design, eventually becoming a qualified textile designer. On completion of her studies she joined a company called Cotton Printing in Bulawayo where she eventually became the manager of the art studio. Later she started her own pottery business called Nivek Ceramics.

It is not surprising that Shirley is an accomplished artist. She also enjoys playing golf and tennis.

Although she has only been living in our village for a short while, she believes that she has made the right choice in moving here. Her unit is comfortable and she feels safe.

One of Shirley’s two sons lives in Bela-Bela. He is a taxidermist while the other teaches Mathematics at Woodridge College, an independent school halfway between Jeffreys Bay and Port Elizabeth.

St. Valentine's Day Tea Party

Many years ago Valentine, a Christian priest, was sentenced to death and thrown in prison for his teachings.

While languishing in prison, he fell in love with the jailer's daughter who was blind. He cured her of her blindness. The night before he was executed, he wrote her a farewell letter, signing it “From Your Valentine.”

The photographs below were taken by Philip van den Berg (U34) at our St. Valentine's Day Tea Party, which was held recently.

Our place. Our pride

Since the origin of our village almost thirty years ago, residents have shown pride in their environment, developing and caring for the area around their units at their own cost.

The pictures below are ample proof of this.

In 1991 the developers of our village took care not to damage indigenous trees, thereby setting an example to be followed over the years to come
The ensuing tradition about caring for our environment is perhaps best demonstrated by a tree-planting ceremony held in 1994
Are we tree-huggers? Absolutely!
The two photographs below are examples of the pride our residents take in their surroundings. They show Annatjie and Mynhard Maree's garden at U25.
