I hope that we will use this spring to ensure that our village returns to its former lushness. Our gardens should be laid out responsibly to ensure that other residents are not inconvenienced by the need to look after it on your behalf. If you can afford a gardener, be creative and do your thing. An uncared for garden is an eyesore.

We are thrilled that our social actions will resume in September, albeit within COVID-19 restrictions. Please support us.

Jacob's pride and joy

Knight Rider was an American action crime television series originally broadcast from 1982 to 1986. The show starred David Hasselhoff as Michael Knight, a high-tech crime fighter assisted by KITT, an advanced, artificially intelligentself-aware, and indestructible car.

Please meet our village’s equivalent (almost!) of KITT: a bicycle modified to an astonishing degree by one of our maintenance workers, Jacob Mfati (photo 1 below).

A solar panel mounted on the luggage compartment (photo 2 below) converts the sun's energy to electricity that is transmitted to a battery via an inverter (photo 3 below). The electricity thus generated powers various gadgets on the bicycle, for example an amplifier (photo 4 below) that accepts a flash drive to provide music while travelling. Next to Jacob’s hand is a microphone which is connected to his cell phone.

Jacob is planning further modifications to his pride and joy, including an alarm system which will be linked up with his cell phone in case someone tampers with his bicycle.

Chairman's message - August 2021

Wessie van der Westhuizen, Chairman of our Management Committee

In the August issue of our monthly newsletter, Kwêvoël, the Chairman of our Management Committee, WESSIE VAN DER WESTHUIZEN, wrote: While we find ourselves in the middle of winter at present, the warmth of our regard for each other renders the chilly weather more tolerable.

This year the COVID-19 pandemic caused much distress in our village. We grieve with the families whose loved ones have passed on. We thank our Heavenly Father for residents who recovered and pray for those who are still struggling with the virus. Meanwhile I once again implore you to do all in your power not to put your own or other people’s lives at risk. If you are unsure whether it is advisable to receive guests, domestic workers, village employees and/or contractors at home, kindly consult with the Management Committee. Each enquiry will be dealt with on merit.

In closing, Jannie and Jennifer J Van Rensburg (U28) deserve our thanks for sponsoring the caring-group cards until recently. We would also like to express our appreciation to John Fourie from PNA who will sponsor the cards from now on.
